![]() Embracing the culture and new heroes of modern off-road racing, DiRT 2 features an exciting line-up of the best new rally drivers - including the multi medal-winning Subaru Rally Team USA driver Ken Block alongside Travis Pastrana, Dave Mirra, and Tanner Faust, who help players build their racing career. From the muddy tracks of the Malaysian rainforest to spectator-packed stadiums in London and Los Angeles, racers compete in contemporary off-road race disciplines covering Rallycross, Trailblazer, Raid, Landrush, and Rally. Taking players on an exhilarating World Tour, DiRT 2 delivers over 100 stunning events, including aggressive, multi-vehicle races and intense solo challenges, set in the most diverse and demanding real-world environments. ![]() For its time it's by far more fun to drive on than Forza 2, but that's the only thing this game really excels at.(Also known as "Colin McRae: DiRT 2" in the UK/EU) DiRT 2 takes racing games to a new level with thrilling new race types, striking locations, big event atmosphere, and a peerless line-up of super-charged speed machines, each selected to deliver spectacular, fast-paced racing. Here you get the lot- from massive rigs on rough surfaces in the desert to agile rally cars like the Peugeot 307 being driven on very tight, technical mountain roads in Spain and Japan. In terms of variety overall it beats DiRT 2 and even DiRT 3 in the rallying part, since DiRT 3 tends to deviate a bit more with Gymkhana and in DiRT 2 you have gate crasher (which definitely isn't rallying). Still worth playing even if you've played the other two, as it has better, more varied tracks which are not only more technical but fun, satisfying and intense too. As a starting point though, the foundations are solid and are evidently improved upon in DiRT 2 and evolved in DiRT 3. It's still a good game, just not a great game like DiRT 2 or mind-blowing like DiRT 3. The AI opponents are great, but youll still. However, compared to DiRT 2 and DiRT 3 this is much more arcade-feeling despite it being more technical. Dirt 2 isnt as realistic as some of the other excellent off-road racers that have come before it, but its as accessible and exciting as any of them. Progression is very simple, and achievements are even more straightforward. It's also good that at the end of each event a leaderboard is shown so you can see how good or badly you did compared to world record and where you rank. But the game does do a fantastic job of talking you through everything so you're not left confused- not that it would ever happen due to the smart GUI. This racing / driving and simulation game is now abandonware and is set in an off-road / monster truck, licensed title, vehicle simulator, automobile and track racing. The disparity in graphics between sandy landrush circuits and trucks (which look hideous) compared with the woodland jungle rally courses and cars like the Renault Clio & Subaru Impreza (which look impressive even in 2012) are too large. In 2000, Codemasters Software Company Limited, The, Sold Out Sales & Marketing Ltd., Imagineer Co., Ltd., Buka Entertainment publishes Colin McRae Rally 2.0 on Windows. Inside the car everything look very bland with very little detail at all. Nevertheless, you do get manual transmission, can change controls and interior view. Lighting and environments are good, but texture detail is very much lacking, with just about everything - including shadows - requiring much more anti-aliasing to even look presentable. ![]() The technical tuning setups look pointless when the braking, handling and graphics seem so unrealistic and childishly arcade in some aspects. When you jump into the game however, things aren't as great as they first seem. The presentation is slick, but the menus and general navigation is best in this one, and looks very polished and modern. There are 5 difficulty levels which can be chosen separately for each event, with a higher reward for harder difficulty obviously. In race, proper rally co-driver terminology is used (such as 1-6 to indicate angle of turns). Tracks are fun, arcade and yet technical, with plenty of pre-race data such as surface type and even a short briefing avaialble beforehand. You can tune to very fine details all aspects of the vehicle, and must spend money to repair damage, which encourages clean racing. Out of all the DiRT games this is definitely the most technical and least simplified version (in theory). ![]()
